If you’ve been on the hunt for your next tactical roguelite obsession, Dungeonfell might just be the game to add to your wishlist. Developed by a small but passionate team, this game invites players to lead a team of unique Delvers into hand crafted dungeons, battling monsters and uncovering the corruption lurking deep within. With a blend of old-school inspirations and modern mechanics, Dungeonfell promises to be a fresh addition to the genre when it launches on February 21st for PC via Steam. We had an exclusive Q&A session with the team at Bad Fox Studios. Let’s dive into what makes this upcoming title stand out.
What is Dungeonfell?
At its core, Dungeonfell is a team-based tactical roguelite where you’ll assemble a squad of unique Delvers and descend into handcrafted dungeons filled with dangers and rewards. Each run is a unique journey where strategy, synergy, and skill are key to surviving increasingly difficult biomes.
Key features include:
- Assemble and customize your team: Choose from a growing roster of Delvers, each with unique abilities.
- Tactical battles: Learn monster attack patterns and use your Delvers strategically to overcome challenges.
- Endless replayability: With procedurally generated encounters and an extensive skill tree, no two runs are the same.
- Unlock progression: Gather gold and resources to expand your skill tree, unlock new Delvers, and upgrade abilities.
As a roguelite, Dungeonfell rewards persistence and player knowledge. The more you play, the more you’ll uncover about the game’s systems, allowing you to craft your perfect team to tackle increasingly difficult corruption levels.
What Sets Dungeonfell Apart?
The developers describe Dungeonfell as a fusion of old-school RPGs like Final Fantasy and Pokémon with modern roguelites like Darkest Dungeon and Slay the Spire. However, what truly sets Dungeonfell apart is its emphasis on giving players more control over their progression.
Unlike traditional roguelites that lean heavily into RNG mechanics, Dungeonfell offers an Unlock Tree that allows players to choose how they evolve. Players can unlock new Relics, spells, and upgrades for Delvers based on their preferred playstyle. This system adds a layer of strategy and player agency that isn’t always present in the genre.
“Our combat focuses on pattern recognition of monster moves and using Delvers to bypass or mitigate threats,” the developers shared in a recent interview. “And with our Corruption Mode, players can face escalating challenges as they master the game’s systems.”
From Concept to Reality: Insights from the Developers
We had the chance to speak with the developers about Dungeonfell’s journey. Here’s what they had to say:
What inspired the creation of Dungeonfell?
“Dungeonfell came from a love of old-school turn-based games and modern roguelites. We wanted to smash those genres together with a focus on tactical decisions and different Delver teams to give players a real sense of learning and achievement.”
What was the biggest challenge in development?
“Hitting that sweet spot between accessibility and depth was a huge challenge. We wanted something that newcomers could enjoy but also had enough depth to keep hardcore players hooked. That’s where the Corruption Mode came in—it ramps up the difficulty for those looking for a serious challenge.”
What are you most proud of in Dungeonfell?
“The Unlock Tree is one of our proudest achievements. It allows players to choose how they progress and keeps the experience feeling fresh. We’re also proud of the variety of monsters, dungeons, and Delvers we’ve packed into the game.”
Art, Audio, and Future Plans
The game’s striking art style pays homage to classic games like Final Fantasy VII while carving out its own identity. “We’ve given every Delver, Monster, and Effect the care and attention needed to make it uniquely Dungeonfell,” the team explained. On the audio side, the game combines mystery with a mix of realism and fantasy to immerse players in the dungeon-crawling experience.
As for what’s next, the team plans to actively engage with the community post-launch, gathering feedback and potentially expanding the game with DLC. “Our idea would be to add more Delvers, Dungeons, and Progression in the future, but we want the community to help guide us on what they want to see.”

Whether you’re a fan of strategic combat, deep progression systems, or roguelite challenges, Dungeonfell offers something for everyone.
