Ubisoft has rolled out the first hotfix update for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, addressing stability and Photo mode crashes on both PlayStation 5 and PC. This update follows the game’s highly anticipated release last week, which saw strong player engagement despite pre-launch controversies.

A Strong Start with Mixed Reviews

Set in feudal Japan, Assassin’s Creed Shadows introduces players to Yasuke, an African-born samurai, and Naoe, a skilled shinobi. The game offers a dynamic mix of stealth-based and combat-heavy gameplay, allowing players to choose their preferred approach. While praised for its breathtaking open world and immersive mechanics, Shadows has received slightly lower review scores compared to some of its predecessors.

Hotfix Update 1.01 Patch Notes

The latest update, weighing in at 8.88GB, primarily focuses on stability improvements:

  • General Stability Fixes – Addressed global issues causing performance hiccups.
  • [PS5] Photo Mode Crash Fix – Resolved an issue where fetching photos for the world map caused a crash.
  • [PC] Photo Mode Crash Fix – Fixed a crash occurring when taking in-game photos.

Ubisoft’s Ongoing Support

This isn’t the first update for Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Days before launch, Ubisoft released a patch to remove the ability to damage shrines and temples after backlash in Japan, even drawing attention from the Prime Minister. As with most major releases, more updates are expected to refine the game further in the coming weeks.

What’s Next?

While the current update is minor, players can expect Ubisoft to roll out more patches, likely addressing performance optimizations, gameplay balancing, and potential bug fixes.
