After months of speculation and growing anticipation, Rockstar Games has officially delayed the release of Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6), setting a new launch date of May 26, 2026.

In a message shared across the company’s social media platforms, Rockstar acknowledged that the revised timeline is later than fans had hoped for. The developer emphasized its commitment to delivering a game that not only meets but surpasses expectations, reinforcing the studio’s reputation for releasing genre-defining titles.

“We are very sorry that this is later than you expected,” Rockstar wrote. “We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game.”

Originally slated for a 2025 window, GTA 6 has been one of the most anticipated video games of the decade. The first trailer, released in December 2023, became a viral sensation, amassing over 93 million views within 24 hours and reigniting the hype surrounding the franchise. Since then, fans have eagerly awaited more concrete news about the launch.

Set in the fictional state of Leonida, a clear nod to Florida the game returns to the iconic Vice City and introduces players to Lucia, the series’ first female protagonist, and her partner. Their story, inspired by real-world crime duos, unfolds against a satirical backdrop that pokes fun at social media culture, influencer fame, and internet oddities.

Despite the delay, the excitement remains undiminished. Industry analysts expect GTA 6 to break sales records, with projected pre-order revenues topping $1 billion and total launch earnings potentially reaching $3 billion in its first year.

Rockstar has reaffirmed that GTA 6 will debut on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, with a PC version likely arriving sometime in 2027. No updates on gameplay previews or new trailers have been shared, but the studio promises to release more information in the coming months.

As always, Rockstar insists that quality takes precedence over speed. And for a franchise that helped define open-world gaming, fans may agree that the wait—however long—is worth it.
